Job Description Job Description The Senior Design Engineer
Position works with the Sales, Estimating, and Construction teams
to Design, Build, and Commission Photovoltaic projects that are
Cost Efficient, Meet Energy Production Requirements, and will last
20 years. The engineer must be proficient in various PV design
software and be able to create system layouts, size wire/conduits,
select appropriate circuit protection, and integrate data
monitoring systems into the design. They are expected to provide
guidance and training to the younger engineers on the team.
Essential Functions: Model, promote, reinforce, and reward the
consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools,
models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values,
and Mission Prepare Project Drawings in CAD that include Site
Layout, Line Diagrams, Equipment Selection, Module Stringing, Data
Monitoring, Labels, Datasheets, etc. to get through the Pricing,
Permitting, Construction, and Commissioning phases of the project
Utilize a wide variety of equipment manufacturers to develop PV
Projects including but not limited to: Ground Mount, Rooftop,
Single Axis Tracker, Carports, Floating Arrays, etc. Coordinate
with structural and electrical engineers and other professionals to
develop stamped drawings Work with various AHJs, Utilities, or
Federal entities to coordinate interconnection applications,
permitting process, and inspections Efficient with the standard
calculations/formulas required for PV Design such as Module String
Sizing, Wire/Conduit Sizing, Voltage Drop, Arc Flash Calculations,
and Circuit Protection Sizing Efficient in time management while
handling multiple projects simultaneously in different stages of
development while working in the office or in remote situations
Professionally interact with customers to manage their
expectations/goals and present the details of the project Works
safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies;
complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards Able
to provide training opportunities for the team or customer to
improve knowledge on PV Design, Operations, Testing, and
Commissioning Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills,
and Abilities: Strong PV Design experience using Auto-CAD,
Helioscope, Sketchup, PVSyst Strong knowledge of standards
including NEC, UL/IEC, IEEE, and building codes Strong computer
skills using Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Zoom Strong knowledge of testing equipment like Voltmeters, I-V
Curve Analyzers, Meggers, etc. Basic knowledge of lifting vehicles
like Boom Lifts and Scissor Lifts Experience in areas outside of
standard PV like BESS, Microgrid, EV Chargers, Medium Voltage
design is a plus Dynamic customer facing skills to present
projects, manage expectations, and build relationship to become
customer’s preferred PV Installer Creative problem-solving skills
under pressure Work well autonomously and within a team to hit
critical milestones Excellent communication skills (verbal and
written) to explain complex material to a range of individuals with
a range of knowledge on the subject so that they can understand it
Knowledgeable on construction/electrical codes and requirements
Ability to create Energy Production estimates using PVSyst, SAM, or
other software Knowledge of Medium Voltage relay programming like
SEL Ability to create Lighting Analysis for carport projects
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent
required; Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electronics
preferred, or Masters Degree a plus Four or more years of
experience in PV Design and Installation including time spent in
the field required EIT preferred NABCEP Certification preferred
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Travel: Up to 15% of travel is expected for this role Valid
driver’s license Physical Requirements: This position involves
extended periods in a stationary position; additionally, movement
inside office and manufacturing areas around various equipment This
role frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange
accurate information in these situations This role routinely uses
standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers,
filing cabinets and fax machines. This role requires using test
equipment like volt meters, I-V curve tracers, thermal cameras,
etc. This role requires the operations of Boom Lifts and scissor
lifts in the field when commissioning systems The position requires
the employee to wear an Arc Flash suit occasionally during
commissioning Work Environment: A majority of this job is performed
in a professional office environment in environmentally controlled
conditions This job involves some field work performing site
surveys, commissioning, and testing on location wherever the
project is located Essential functions are performed in close
physical proximity to other people Frequently works at fast pace
