Job Description:

The role of the Director of Operations is to oversee and lead the production of the highest quality, most delicious, safest, cost conscious and honest artisan ice creams possible. The Director will also be responsible for the Supply Chain function of the business. This position reports directly to the CEO. The person in this role supports the creative process and goals of assuring quality products, trained, dependable and accountable employees. This person will have the skills and experience to manage a team environment involving the development of high-performance work teams. This leader will have the responsibility for managing all safety, quality, production and procurement functions. Responsibilities include cost reduction through utilizing 5S principles, continuous process improvement , and internal project management. Key Responsibilities

  • Fully support the mission, vision and core values of the company and the integrity of the brand
  • Fully engage in day to day operations of the production & Supply Chain processes
  • Maintain highest Production Facility sanitary, safety and organization levels and must meet, or exceed all health department requirements
  • Address challenges or concerns immediately and directly to the CEO
  • Meet the production & supply chain demands of the business
  • Take initiative
  • Lead by example and provide leadership with the ability to get results through mentoring others .
  • Accept feedback, suggestions and constructive criticism in the interest of the business
  • The Director will have strong communication skills, be energetic and engaging, take initiative, and exhibit positive attitude throughout his/her team Human Resources
    • Manage directly and indirectly, all Production/Operations supervis ors and their crews and address staff issues directly with individuals
    • Partner with other Directors to maintain constant and open communication and cross organizational efforts for smooth and successful operations
    • Prepare staff schedule and approve time off requests for department
    • Lead and/or assist Production Supervisor/Manager in hiring, training, assessment and review of employee performance and needed skill development
    • Maintain staff knowledge base for new flavors, preparation methods, safety, efficiency, etc
    • Enforce all items in Policies and Procedures manual
    • Maintain open communication and high energy for great morale throughout department
    • Developing/coaching hourly and supervisory staff. Sanitation
      • Ensure and maintain compliance with all local, state and federal dairy and health department/inspector guidelines
      • Maintain lab sampling programs (internal and external) of both product and environment
      • Collaborate with Production Supervisor/Manager, to maintain the highest levels of sanitation possible in production environments
      • Ensure Production opening and closing procedures are being completed and completed consistently and well Supply Chain
        • Manage all ingredient Procurement needs including Sourcing & Procuring with emphases on quality, cost, availability and product labels
        • Monitor and document inventory of Supplies, ingredients and stock on a weekly basis
        • Manage all warehouse requirements and functions
        • Ensure that customers product logistics are met on timely basis
        • Address any issues with vendors, staff, etc. to CEO immediately Research and Development
          • Collaborate with Anthony in order to foster and/or maintain relationships with Farmers and Artisan partners
          • Collaborate with Anthony & team to constantly be creating exciting new flavors/products
          • Work with our existing dairy suppliers to improve quality Quality Control and Efficiency
            • Gain appropriate HACCP certification
            • Develop and implement HACCP plan
            • Maintain and continue to improve staff knowledge base for new flavors, preparation methods, safety, efficiency, etc
            • Create production schedule and delegate tasks
            • Maintain the highest sanitation, safety and organizational levels in the production process and space
            • Lead and log weekly scheduled quality control checks and react to correct any deficiencies immediately
            • Ensure that all facility equipment is functioning properly and take action to resolve issues
            • Develop and maintain equipment maintenance log
            • Communicate any QC issues with dairy and other vendors immediately and work with them to find solutions
            • Monitor product inventory and ensure order fulfillment
            • Always be aware of current state of product, alone and packaged, and continuously make improvements where necessary
            • Work closely with the CEO and Anthony to vet and onboard potential co-packaging and co-manufacturing partners
            • Manage ingredient and packaging costs
            • Maintain monthly analysis of cost of goods
            • Ensure margins are set, met and re-evaluated as needed Qualifications/Requirements
              • Bachelors degree preferably in engineering, business, operations management, or similar field
              • Min 3-5 years experience in manufacturing preferred. Preferably in food/beverage
              • Experience in managing projects to completion
              • Lean Six Sigma Experience preferred, demonstrated by successful completion of a major improvement project.
              • Statistics/logical problem solving.
              • Solid working knowledge of the following business enterprises: HSE/quality regulatory compliance, processing/packaging/warehouse operations, maintenance and engineering, ingredient and package material procurement, production planning & deployment, sales and marketing, research and development, and excellent communication, facilitation and influence skills.
              • Experience developing/coaching hourly and supervisory staff preferred.
              • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)
              • Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment
              • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others Essential Functions
                • Maintain a flexible schedule based on needs of production and your team
                • Able to communicate clearly and professionally with team members (face-to face, by telephone and email)
                • Able to read and comprehend written material
                • Able to stand for shifts lasting up to, but not limited to, 8 hours of time on hard flooring
                • Perform tasks which involve repetitive motion including, but not limited to the use of arms, hands, wrists, back
                • Follows standard procedures in the use of all production appliances, equipment, utensils, etc.
                • Able to adhere to all safety and sanitation regulations
                • Able to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls
                • Able to work in variable temperature conditions, such as below freezing temperatures
