Hospital of Austin! Job Summary and Qualifications The MCS
Coordinator is a registered nurse who plans, coordinates and
implements the care of the ECMO, heart failure patients and the
pre/post-VAD patient, case management, as applicable, in both the
in-patient and out- patient settings in accordance with the nursing
process. This position has 24-hour accountability for the clinical
practice of nursing and coordination for the delivery of patient
care for the ECMO/VAD patient populations. This role encompasses
coordination of human, fiscal and other resources, development of
personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards,
strategic planning and fostering of collaborative relationships.
Participates in direct patient care as needed, including rotational
on-call coverage. Collaborates with other team leaders in sharing
of staff and resources, as well as assists in the cross training of
the staff. Participates in providing patient specific care
standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to
ensure high levels of patient satisfaction
- Assist in the program development of ECMO and VAD.
- Attend and participate in facility meetings.
- Supports the ECMO/VAD Process Improvement Committee
preparations as required.
- Actively participates in administering patient care and
management of related service.
- Assist in the participation in ECMO/VAD Data Registries, Data
Entry with accuracy and integrity of data as a priority.
- Reviews, analyzes and takes action as needed to improve
ECMO/VAD registry data. Participates in the development and
maintenance of the VAD statistical databases, Intermacs and any
registries pertaining to VAD services.
- Communicates with staff and physicians on administrative issues
and follows-up to bring closure to such issues.
- Takes call for the ECMO/VAD program Requirements Experience
- 2 years of critical care experience in a hospital setting
- one year experience in management of organ
failure/transplant/VAD/ECMO patients preferred Education
- Associate's Degree-Major: Nursing. Employee will enroll in a RN
to BSN program within first year of employment, and graduate with
BSN within 3 years of enrollment date.
- BSN Preferred Licenses and Certifications
- Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact
Registered Nursing License. If Compact License, Texas license must
be obtained within 90 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per St. David's
Healthcare policy
- ACLS certification as per St. David's Healthcare policy
