visitPurpose The Career & Talent Development Consultant position
will join the MBA Career Education and Coaching team which is
housed within McCombs Career Management & Corporate Relations
(CMCR). The primary goal of this position is to provide one-on-one
career coaching, targeted career programming/resources, and career
education to Full-Time MBA students through a compulsory strategic
career planning course.ResponsibilitiesCareer Consulting
- Serve as a key point of contact for our MBA students, in
providing one-on-one career coaching and small group advising. This
will include, but is not limited to, resume writing, mock
interviews (i.e., behavioral, case, technical), career goal
assessment, professional development, job search strategy,
networking, offer evaluation, and salary negotiation, etc.
- Stay abreast of best practices and trends for MBA specific
industries/functional areas.
- Serve as a liaison to faculty and staff relevant to MBA student
caseload (i.e., Supply Chain Management Center, CCIMS, Marketing,
Operations).
- Track MBA student progress and employability, conduct outreach,
and collect internship and post-graduation employment data.Career
Education: Teaching & Resource Development
- Collaborate with Full-Time MBA Career Education & Coaching team
to continually develop career education strategy, content,
pedagogy, and mode of delivery to meet evolving students' learning
needs and to prepare students for a constantly evolving
marketplace.
- Coordinate and teach one section of the BA 181: Strategic
Career Planning course for 1st year full-time MBA students in the
fall.
- Supervise one teaching assistant while managing assignments,
grading and classroom administration through Canvas and ensuring
timely feedback to students.
- Create relevant digital content for online channels (i.e.,
websites) and maintain online resources.Career Programming &
Engagement
- Collaborate with the Employer & Alumni Engagement team to
develop and execute new programming, panels, and recruiting events
preparing MBA students for the changing labor market.
- Work with designated student organizations and programs on
career related activities including conference preparation,
workshops, and resource development specific to the club's
recruiting needs.
- Attend 1 or more national career fairs to support student
recruiting efforts and assist in employer relations.
- Participate in appropriate professional development
opportunities (i.e., MBA CSEA) to stay current on best practices
and trends in MBA recruiting and career advising.
- Request programming funds and submit requests through McCombs
Intranet System for events, room reservations, purchase orders,
contracts, etc., and adhere to UT and McCombs policies and
procedures.Project/Program Management
- Collaborate with members of the FTMBA Career Education and
Coaching, Employer Relations, and other teams in the MBA Program
office to coordinate schedules, calendars, events, and
opportunities to build relationships with employers, alumni, and
current students.Oversee 1 or more major projects individually or
in partnership with other team members. Major projects may include:
- Coordination of career curriculum and the BA181 course.
- Management of international student career engagement
- Tracking of employment data and statistical analysis.
- Management of Communication Strategy.
- Management of under-represented student pre-matriculation
career prep.
- Curation of digital content and resources to asynchronously
support MBA students
- Management of 2nd year Peer Career Coaches and Industry Career
Consultants
- Other related functions as assignedRequired Qualifications
- Masters degree in business, education, counseling, or related
field (relevant work experience can substitute); minimum of 4
years' work experience in an MBA specific industry (e.g., finance,
consulting, marketing, operations) or relevant experience in career
coaching/advising, outplacement, recruiting for these
industries.
- A strong desire to work with MBA students and knowledge of
various career fields for MBA graduates.
- Strong customer focus (ability to listen attentively to
students and other internal and external stakeholders to understand
and respond positively to their requests) is required.
- Must be comfortable addressing the emotional needs and stresses
of highly motivated business professionals in career
transition.
- An entrepreneurial orientation, proven track record of taking
initiative and making things happen (i.e., self-starter).
- Exceptional resume writing, interviewing and job search
skills.
- Demonstrated project management abilities, interpersonal
skills, and excellence in oral and written communication.
- Strong organizational work skills, defining tasks, prioritizing
assignments, and following through on all projects
independently.
- Must be able to develop effective presentations and speak
confidently to large audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative
team environment.
- Highly proficient with web-based resources, spreadsheet and
presentation software required (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and
Excel)Relevant education and experience may be substituted as
appropriate.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals from various
backgrounds.
- Experience supporting students with F-1 student visas.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying federal
immigration laws and regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of MBA level job search skills and
recruiting of processes for technology, financial services, or
consulting industries in a core function (e.g.,
recruiting/sourcing, finance, strategy, product
management/marketing, operations).
- Deep knowledge of MBA careers (specifically within Finance
Services, Consulting, Technology, CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods),
Retail, Manufacturing, Transportation) and experience working with
MBA level employers.
- Prior experience with graduate business school students.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective
rapport with MBA students, alumni, and recruiters.
- Proficiency with pivot tables in Excel for data analysis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MBA level job search and process
management.
- Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems, Learning Management
Systems (e.g., Canvas) and/or Symplicity is a plus.
- Experience teaching in an academic environment or presenting in
front of MBA-level or higher audiences
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and/or
other remote communication technologies, including leading large
group presentations with students, members of the organization, and
external guests.Salary Range$60,000 + depending on
qualificationsWorking Conditions
- May work under standard office conditions with repetitive use
of a keyboard at a workstation.
- Ability to travel, including overnight, and work some
evenings.
- This is an Austin, Texas-based position and is eligible for
Hybrid work.
