outcomes and the future of nursing. Job Summary and Qualifications
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The registered nurse provides
professional nursing care for clinic patients following established
standards and practices. The registered nurse cardiac -vascular
possesses advanced knowledge and skill in the area of cardiac
nursing. The registered cardiac -vascular nurse demonstrates
critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and leadership in
the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient. DUTIES
INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: • Uses critical thinking skills to
assess facts and make rational decisions quickly and effectively
when working with patients who have heart complications •
Participates as part of an interdisciplinary care team in the
treatment of cardiac – vascular conditions such as heart failure,
heart valve disorders, high blood pressure, vascular disorders,
heart attack and arrythmia • Interprets data and responds to urgent
situations in a way that optimizes patient care and produces
positive outcomes. • Uses analytical skills to review test results,
draw conclusions, and advise on treatment plans. • Performs and
interprets various cardiac and vascular lab tests • Works closely
with cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, electrophysiologists,
and other physicians in the care and treatment of full range of
cardiovascular conditions • Participates in clinical trials and
clinical research programs as per clinic needs • Documents legible
and concise entries in the medical record. • Documents complete
medical history on each patient on initial session and updated
medical record appropriately with each visit. • Performs
appropriate patient preparation for each visit and/or procedure. •
Performs medication reconciliation on each visit. • Educates
patients on cardiovascular diseases, including but not limited to
preventive measures • Helps diagnose and treat cardiovascular
events • Assists in performing diagnostic tests such as ECG’s,
EKG’s • Initiatives Holter and Event monitors • Interacts with the
patients as well as their families pre and post treatment •
Evaluates and monitor heart related devices such as pacemakers •
Monitors the patient and their vitals, especially cardiovascular
readings • Assesses and interprets lab results • Possesses
knowledge of ACC/AHA guidelines related to heart failure • Makes
critical decisions concerning the initiative of emergency medical
procedures as appropriate • Maintains an orderly, efficient, and
timely flow of patients. • Greets patients and prepares them for
physician’s examination. • Provides general nursing care to
patients as necessary for office treatment. • Screens patients for
appropriate information. • Instructs patients in collection of
samples and tests. • Arranges for patient testing and admissions. •
Checks rooms daily for necessary supplies. • Responds to and refers
incoming telephone calls. • Instructs patients and family regarding
medications and treatment instructions. • Maintains and reviews
patients’ records and other pertinent information. • Posts tests
and examination results. • Maintains patient confidentially. •
Administers medications in accordance with physician orders. •
Maintains current knowledge to assure a safe working environment
and demonstrates practical application of all policies and
procedures relative to safety and infection control. • Utilizes
universal precautions in any potential contact with patient body
fluids or used patient supplies that may be contaminated with
patient body fluids. • Projects a positive image of the facility in
all interactions and supporting effective team functioning. •
Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and
“Mission and Value Statement”. • Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION: • Graduation from an accredited school of registered
nursing is required. EXPERIENCE: • Minimum of three years
registered nurse cardiac -vascular experience in an acute care or
cardiology clinic setting required. Experience to include
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: • BLS required upon hire • ACLS required
within 60 days of hire • Current unrestricted license as a
Registered Nurse in accordance with state regulations • Cardiac
Medicine Certification (CMC) through American Association of
Critical Care Nursing (AACN) preferred OR • Cardiac Vascular
Nursing Certification (CV-BC) through American Nurses Credentialing
